Choosing The Best Method Of Cleaning Carpets And Upholstery

March 10th, 2010 Steve Adams No comments

There are numerous approaches you can take when cleaning carpets and upholstery. The purpose of the cleaning (is it a general clean or are there specific stains which you want to remove) as well as the type of material you are working with will dictate the best cleaning method to use. If you are the housekeeping type you might be considering doing it yourself but people such as me (I’m lazy) prefer to use a professional service. Here are some basic tips to follow when cleaning carpets, rugs and upholstery.

Carpet and rug cleaning methods

Basically there are five basic methods of cleaning carpets namely, steaming, shampooing, dry foam, quick dry, and dry absorbent compound cleaning.

Steam cleaning (a.k.a hot water extraction) is probably the most popular of all the different methods but not always the best since the drying time, depending on the material, can be as long as 12 hours. A high-powered pump sprays a cleaning fluid into the carpet which is then sucked out immediately by a strong vacuum.

Any appliance store can offer you a wide variety of carpet cleaning machines. Many of these appliances are upright, free standing units with a solution tank for the cleaning fluid and two or three nylon brushes on the underside. The procedure is the automated version of somebody cleaning with a scrubbing brush in that the dirt is loosened by the brushes and then the dirt and dust is then vacuumed (normally with a separate vacuum cleaner) afterwards. As with steam cleaning, the carpet takes about 12 hours to dry.

Quick dry cleaning uses the same equipment as normal shampooing and actually the two methods are identical in many ways. The only different is that quick dry cleaning, instead of using nylon brushes to scrub the carpet, uses a flat, absorbent pad which looks similar to a small round mop. The carpet is first sprayed with the quick dry cleaning solution before the machine buffs the carpet (think of buffing as being the same as trying to make your kitchen floor shine). The bonnet (the pad) absorbs the cleaning fluid and collects the dirt at the same time. Drying time is about an hour which is a lot more practical for high traffic areas.

Dry Foam cleaning is a mixture between shampooing and hot water extraction. Foam is introduced to the carpet by a machine with rolling brushes and the carpet is then vacuumed to remove the dirt. The drying time, dependent on the carpet type of course, is between an hour or two.

A dry, absorbent compound which contains various solvents and detergents are spread lightly over the carpet. Either you, or the professional carpet cleaner you hire, will use a machine which works the powder into the carpet fibers after which you need to let some time go by while the powder absorbs the dirt and smells. After a short while (depending on the brand of powder you use), vacuum the carpet so that it removes the remainder of the powder. Since no water is ever used on the carpet there is no need for any drying time.

How to clean upholstery

The determining factor when choosing the best method to clean upholstery is the type of material to be cleaned. Some, for example, can only be dry cleaned (velvets and silks) and the cleaning is best left to a professional while other stronger materials can be wet cleaned. The steam method or hot extraction method is the same as what you would use on your carpets. The only difference is that the nozzle is a smaller, hand held version. You can also hand shampoo most fabrics but it is advisable to shake the cleaning solution and only apply the foam using a damp sponge.

Identifying the upholstery material

Most people don?t know what the best method is for cleaning their fabric furniture. If you are lucky you will probably find a manufacturers label underneath one of the cushions which will contain the cleaning instructions and various suggestions and warnings. Mostly you are looking for a code at the top or bottom of the label with a ‘S’, ‘W’ or ‘SW’. The ‘S’ means that the material must be dry cleaned while the ‘W’ means wet cleaning is allowed thus allowing for shampoo or steam cleaning methods. The ‘SW’ indicates that both wet and dry cleaning methods are acceptable for the material.

The Past Times Of Window Cleaning In The UK

February 15th, 2010 Jason Latham No comments

The history of window cleaners in the UK began with the initial creation of windows after 2000 BC. During this time the Egyptians perfected their glass-making art and as a result the need for ways to clean this glass originated.

The first window cleaning products were simply rags and water, however the first tool to be used that specialised in window cleaning for the horse sweat squeegee. This was originally used in the stables to rub down the animals, yet some realised that the long handles and absorbent material made it ideal for window cleaning.

the 20th century saw a rapid development in window cleaning tools and products due to the scientific advances in chemical and manufacturing processes. 1936 saw Ettore Sceccone invent the single-blade window cleaning squeegee which along with other breakthroughs helped to eliminate the problem of water spots and streaks.

As time went on further advances in the detergents used for window cleaning were made. Soap became redundant as it tended to leave streaks and with the development in the car industry of tinted windows, it became necessary to create ammonia free products that were not as corrosive.

As we stand today, a thin layer of wax is even left as a residue that reflects light giving a beautiful shine to your windows, and also trapping moisture that helps to avoid smears and water spots.

With the growth of these and many other products, the household chore of window cleaning became ever more easy, and with the advances in modern times of much larger windows to let in lots of light, this can only be seen as a good thing.

However there are professional services for those who cannot tend to their own windows for whatever reason. The window cleaning industry has grown dramatically as a result to such an extent that there are even competitions on window cleaning in the UK and all over the world.

Dispose of Trash The Right Way!

January 23rd, 2010 John Taylor No comments

Have you ever asked yourself the simple question of how to dispose trash in the correct manner so as to not disturb Mother Nature anymore? Is it possible that we can preserve our resources with just a little bit of effort?

Although there are certainly many ways to do this, the question asked here has been posed more than once before… almost by everyone that I know. Yet, despite this, I still see the same errors committed more than once.

In Dallas, TX the government provides help to those that wish to recycle their unwanted stacks of paper. If you look into it, I’m sure you might be able to find something similar. All that we have to do is call and have it arranged.

The government takes a recycling trash can to your home, arranging for it to be picked up once it is completely full.

The best thing about this is that it is brought to your very home, and you can put all of your recyclable items into it.

Honestly though, if you’re thinking that this is ALREADY a hassle, you don’t have to do all of this in order to help out Mother Nature.

Resources as we know them are precious. Oil, water, trees etc. It takes years to grow a tree and less than 20 minutes to knock one down and kill it.

Every paper that you use is killing part of a tree. I am of the opinion that we should all do our part in society and recycle.

It is actually really simple to put a bit of ourselves into recycling. For example, let’s say that we’re taking a match class and we love our scratch paper. However, the semester is over and the new one is about to begin… so our stack of scratch paper is no longer needed. What to do what to do?

Don’t throw it out! Once you have a pretty big pile, take it to a recreation center and they will get rid of the paper in the right manner.

You might also try taking it to your local library; they usually recycle paper and plastic as well.

Remember that our life is not very long at all, but even if it is short for YOU, don’t forget that your kids and your kids children will keep on living in this world. Let us try and do our best to preserve it.

So next time, go green and dispose of your trash correctly. Try and preserve earth.

Locating Reliable London Window Cleaners

January 18th, 2010 Jason Latham No comments

With living in such a large city you might find that finding reliable London window cleaners might be a very dubious task. If you a commercial member of staff in charge of finding great window cleaners for an acceptable price then some research will need to be done.

The very first thing you’ll need to make note of is how large the building is and on how many floors your company sits. The reason for this is because some smaller companies do not have the equipment or the insurance to clean high rises.

Should your businesses building be either very large or particularly tall then your choice of contractors will become slightly more limited. Because of the fact that your business is within the city you are privy to the fact that the choice of cleaners is huge, no matter how large or small your business is.

Should you be in requirement for London Window Cleaners for a high rise building or even skyscraper then it is likely that the building already has an abseiling unit attached to it. If this is the case then always check with the contractors if their insurance covers using one when you are obtaining quotes.

Commercial window cleaners will very often require for a contract to be signed, as the job takes a long time and a lot of man power. They may ask for up front payment or simply for guaranteed work for every other week of the year for example.

If you are working within a business estate then it might be worth your while to speak to any neighbouring businesses and ask who they have used in the past. You may even find that the contractors offer you a discount for the work as they would normally be in the area anyway.

To make a great career with window cleaners London, you can follow the website in the following resource box. You can also learn out more information regarding the facts of window cleaners and what they all do through the provided links.

Construction Dumpsters in Dallas And How To Save Your Money

January 12th, 2010 Elisa Criss No comments

Since construction companies are always building new homes, making new buildings, and tearing down old ones. Construction Dumpsters in Dallas are always in demand.

The process is simple yet, highly overlooked and critical. This information will most definitely be needed on your next trash hauling experience.

Although this process is very easy it is often not done. So having this information with you the next time you need a dumpster is valuable.

The phrase “construction dumpster” may be a new addition to the reader’s vocabulary so allow me to fully explain what it is before I go into further detail.

Many people might not even know what a construction dumpster is. So let me inform you as to what one is. Construction dumpsters are roll off containers (the big trash containers seen when building homes or tearing them down).

The rental of a roll off container isn’t the most fun you’ll ever have. The process of finding a decent servicing company that provides quality dumpsters at a reasonable price is anything other than easy but, when you do, you’re likely to stick with that company the next time you need them. There are countless disposal companies in the Dallas area but, your best bet is with a smaller company such as Alpha Waste Services, Genesis Waste Disposal, or even an online company like Book A Dumpster.

Finding a disposal company that rents these dumpsters out at affordable rates isn’t always the easiest thing to do. But the best part about finding one that gives you great prices and deals (such as free deliveries the first time you call) is that you’ll probably stick to that company for a very long time.

The best way to save money on dumpsters is to use a smaller company that is trying to expand in your local area, such as Alpha Waste Services, Book A dumpster, or Genesis Waste Disposal.

Every business is out to save money and making minimal expenses to get desired results. When working with a company that will service you and wow you at the same time, you won’t ever feel like calling around for quotes again. The time saved is money saved and that can only help your business or wallet.

Most businesses out there are trying to save as much money as possible. So when you’re working with a dumpster rental company, you’ll be saving money and so will they regardless of the price they give you so long as you use their services at least 3 times. So be sure to tell them of your plans!

The cost of a roll off dumpster isn’t all that cheap but it shouldn’t be too expensive either. You are likely to get a suitable price if you give this information to the company you are thinking of using, as long as they are one of the smaller (local) companies looking to grow and expand.

If all you needed was a minimal amount of 3 containers for your job it would be enough for the smaller company to quote you a more pleasurable expense.

Well in Regards to construction dumpsters in Dallas I do hope that this article was of some help to someone out there that needed it.

Make sure you visit Alpha Waste Services for the best deals on Construction Dumpsters in Dallas, and also visit Dumpster Rentals for more details.

Simple Ways To Keep Your Rugs Clean

January 5th, 2010 Jovan Bigorski No comments

Rugs placed in busy areas like the living room and the kitchen can easily get dirty. Dust, dirt, oily cooking residue, sand and moisture affect the rugs’ fabric and colors. If not properly cared for, they will look worn out faster than you think. A good clean is the prevention and the solution.

Okay, don’t let your “gut feel” get the better of you and simply toss your rugs in the washing machine. Your rugs might turn out worst than being bombarded by busy feet. Proper cleaning is needed.

The most basic way of cleaning a rug is vacuum cleaning. This should be done fairly regularly except for certain rugs that are too delicate for vacuuming and should be shaken out rather than subjected to a machine. These include Flokati rugs and leather shag rugs. Rugs made from natural fibers such as bamboo or sisal can be shaken out or vacuumed, whichever is more convenient. If a rug is too large to shake by hand, place it on a fence or drape it over a railing, and beat it with a stick to get rid of dust. The more movement of people that occurs on or around a rug, the more often you will have to clean it in one of the above ways. Remember that a rug is usually vacuumed in the same direction as the pile.

Spilling is one accident that seems inevitable no matter how graceful and poised people tend to act with a pretty-looking rug around. A misstep is bound to happen somehow. What do you do when it does? Do something immediately. Don’t let the stain dry or else, a simple DIY cleaning might not be enough. Instead of rubbing the stain, use a paper towel or a wet cloth and just blot. Scrubbing the brand new stain will cause it to spread. If something semi-solid is on the rug, scoop it up with a napkin or scrape it off with a spoon, and then blot the stain.

If the stain leaves a mark on the area rug, you can use cleaning products such as a dishwashing detergent and the natural way, vinegar or baking soda mixed with water. They are effective stain removals.

Oxygen cleaners are useful for spot removal on synthetic rugs. Such cleaners are eco friendly products so one doesn’t have to worry about adverse environmental effects when these are used. However, the directions for use should be carefully read and attended to, and a test in an unnoticeable area should be done, to make sure that color will not run or fade. You must also remember to rinse the spot after you have used the oxygen cleaner, and don’t step on the spot till it has dried out fully. Never use oxygen cleaner on a wool rug or a silk one – the alkaline residue of the cleaner can harm such rugs.

Cleaning your rugs can also be done with dry powder cleaners, dry foam cleaners and steam cleaning.

Rug maintenance experts all agree that it is essential to start with a quality flokati wool area rugs; our favorite place on online is www.HouseOfAreaRugs.com.

The Champion, Solitary, 1 Simple Tip That Can Help You Sell Your Property

January 5th, 2010 Joshua Lieberman No comments

Regardless of where you live, selling a home can be stressful. People come and go and one often feels they are being judged on more than just the residence. Judgements are made on color choice, decor, and a multitude of other things. This is because the focus is not on the property, but on what’s in it. In London the 1 simple tip that can help you sell your property is perhaps the easiest to achieve, it is ensuring the appearance reflects the property’s best qualities and not yours.

Many things may come to mind but, in actuality, the simplest answer is the best; the overall appearance. If the seller were to objectively step back and look at the overall appearance from across the street, many things would come into view. Rubbish may have blown into shaggy bushes, an lawn that was not recently mowed may be scattered with toys, chipped paint may reveal two or three coats in varying hues below, and dirty windows may hide views to the interior.

A poor first impression often prevents potential buyers from even entering a real estate property, although the inside may be in pristine condition. A survey of potential buyers recently revealed that of everything considered, the tidiness of the space was number one when it came actually making a commitment to buy and many indicated they never entered a property that looked shoddy on the outside.

The evaluation of the outside of a property is called curb appeal and does not require anything special, like a flowing fountain or a completely new paint job. What it does take is attention to detail on the outside which demonstrates the care with which the property was maintained and a warm and inviting entry. If the windows are dirty, potential buyers believe the inside will also be dirty so do not allow the smaller details to be overlooked as they can say more than the larger issues.

On the inside the same attention to detail should be taken. Everything that is not absolutely necessary should be packed up and placed in storage. Every surface should be cleaned and windows should gleam. It’s especially important to ensure that any surface that may appear old and worn, be refreshed either with a little paint or polish or be dressed with ornamentation that will reduce the negative appearance. For instance, a throw rug will easily cover a stain on a polished wood floor yet will reveal the beauty of the wood beneath.

Television programming often skews the beliefs of potential sellers that unless they can afford to paint the whole house inside and out and rent new furniture they won’t be able to get top dollar. This could not be farther from the truth. Buyers want to see the house, not the sellers possessions, and they want to know that the residence was well-maintained so they can buy with peace-of-mind. The 1 simple tip that can help you sell your property is to make the first impression the best one possible.

The window cleaners London know just what to do to clean your windows on your home. They are Domestic window cleaners that you can count on.

Omaha Carpet Cleaning Services To Spruce Up The Home

January 2nd, 2010 Willie Hundsuckles No comments

Whether it’s before or after the holiday rush, Omaha carpet cleaning services need to be prepared as the cleaning of the carpet is one of the most important aspects of getting a home all spruced up. Of course there are those carpet cleaning services that are of higher quality than others and you’re going to want to employ the best possible services in order to get the best results. You don’t want to have to clean up after the cleaners or deal with damage to your possessions thanks to sloppy work.

Make sure that the cleaning service that you choose has up to date insurance. You are permitted to ask for proof of insurance. Do not just take the word of an advertisement, as advertising is not always spot on accurate. A few days of lapsed coverage can be enough to cause a serious situation for you.

Is there a difference between the smaller Omaha carpet cleaning services and large chain companies? It’s really about preference. The more you can count on the service to clean your carpets without leaving evidence that they’ve been there (aside from a clean smell) the more comfortable you’ll be working with them.

So how can you determine whether a company or the carpet technician knows what they are doing? You have to do a little homework yourself. It might seem like a lot of work to just hire a carpet cleaning company. But understand that if approached in the wrong way, they can end up ruining your carpet or an irreplaceable family treasure.

Fabrics are not meant to be drenched. Carpeting that is soaked all the way through tends to develop mold and can become a health hazard. Not all furniture can withstand the high intensity of professional grade cleaning products. Simply making sure that the company you hire knows basic facts like this can save you a lot in headaches and replacements.

A high concentration of cleaning products is difficult to remove. When soap of any kind is left behind it is not easy to remove after the fact. This will lead to additional dirt being attracted to the carpeting which will eventually ruin it. You won’t know in time to alert the carpet cleaning company to the problem and therefore will end up paying for the damage yourself.

If you are not able to become familiar with Omaha carpet cleaning services through friends or relatives, be sure to ask many questions before hiring a service. Check into the user reviews and go the extra mile to ensure the protection of you home and belongings.

Talmage Carpet Cleaners offers service to business and homes in the area for all rugs, upholstery, carpets, and also tile and grout.

Don’t Just Buy Any Carpet Cleaning Machine

December 29th, 2009 Paul Stenson No comments

Carpet cleaning and rug cleaning can be two different things. The composition of many rugs is different from that of carpet and you often need a different type of machine to do the cleaning. If you have a house full of rugs, you better be sure the machine you buy will do a good job on rugs before you make your purchase. Also, some machines are better for dealing with pet hairs so you need to take that into consideration.

There are a lot of different machines on the market and it can be confusing trying to figure out the differences between them. Going to Consumer Reports or some other place where they might have reviews of the machines you are looking at is a great idea because you dont want to end up with a machine that is not right for your carpet or rug.

The Von Schrader lines of carpet cleaning machines are a trusted brand and an industry leader. These machines have good reviews and customers have been satisfied with their performance for many years. As they are a top brand, the machines are a bit on the expensive side and so you want to make sure you buy the one that will work best for your type of carpets or rugs.

Another brand that is respected in carpet cleaning is Rug Doctor and their line of machines. Rug Doctor is one of the oldest names in rug and carpet cleaning and one of the most recognizable. As with all machines though, you need to pick the one that suits your purpose. For instance, you might need a different machine to clean your rugs if they are shaggy than you would if you have rugs or carpet that is cut close.

Doing the proper research is advisable whenever you are making a purchase for something that is expensive and you hope to use for many years. You could even hire a professional to come out first and clean your carpets so he can explain to you what type of carpets you have and what machines would work best to clean them. A professional will be able to give you a good analysis of your situation and perhaps save you a headache or two down the road.
