Lighting With Outdoor Post Lanterns

February 14th, 2010 Danny Ricks No comments

Lighting the inside of the house may not be enough if you want your house to look really beautiful from outside. Outdoor lighting not only enhances your house but can also draw attention to other areas of your yard like your garden. Besides the ordinary lamp, another great option to choose to do the job of illuminating the yard is by using outdoor post lanterns. These lights can be placed anywhere in the yard since all the lanterns needs is a post unlike other lights that need to be attached to a roof or ceiling.

These outdoor lights are safe and can stand firm on the ground. The wiring is usually buried underneath the ground and therefore keeps the visual neat for your visitors. Most lanterns and poles are made of iron, aluminum and other metals for durability and resistance to rusting. Because the designs of the lanterns are closed, the light bulbs are safe and protected in cases of rain or snow.

Outdoor post lanterns are very commonly seen along the streets and alleyways when you are walking in your neighborhood. They can also be seen in some parks and amusement centers. Some businesses also choose to use outdoor post lanterns to light their place. They are commonly used outdoors because they do not need roofs or ceilings since their power source and attachment is from the ground. Your yard is also a great place for these lights to illuminate.

Besides the safety and security it provides, the aesthetic value is also one of the reasons why these lights are good additions to the yard. The designs vary from old-fashioned, modern to rustic. There are many styles to choose from that can complement the design of your house or the area in your yard you want illuminated. You can place them at the gate or along the pathway to your doorstep. They can also enhance the look of your garden. You can still enjoy and appreciate the flowers at night. If you had your front yard landscaped, outdoor post lanterns can also provide the perfect lighting to keep them visible for you and the others to admire. These lights can also be placed near the pool to give light when you have a pool party or simply want to go for a swim. The possibilities of enhancing the outdoors of your house by these lights are only limited by the imagination and creativity.

It is not a great task to set up and wire outdoor lanterns. Some even comes pre-wired at your convenience. However, if you want different combinations of pole and lanterns, you may have to do the wiring yourself. You will also need to do some digging to keep the wires buried underground. For those who have only a little or no experience at all with wiring, it is advisable to hire a professional electrician to do the job to be sure that it is safe from any faults.

For those who want to go beyond ordinary lights, outdoor post lanterns are another great choice to enhance the look of your house at affordable prices. With just a few easy steps, your lights will stand out from the rest.

You may want to add beauty into your outdoors by adding outdoor post lanterns. It not only provides security and safety from the outside but shows the real beauty of your home. Or you may want to try exterior home lighting.

The Significance Of The Couch In Our Day-To-Day Lives

February 5th, 2010 Hector Milla No comments

A settee could be a very essential part of our lives. It is usually kept in the front room, however sometimes people do keep a sofa in the bedroom or perhaps the balcony, for various purposes. A sofa is very important to our daily lives. We come home exhausted, after a long day of work, and sit down on the settee to rest our legs. During weekends, we cuddle up on the settee with a book and a blanket. We watch TV from the sofa.

Sofas come in numerous styles, colors and materials; it’s a type of furniture that is very useful in the sense that it will seat more than one person. It can be kept in the family room, in the lounge, in the front room, or even in the bedroom.

Typically a sofa has a half back, and one raised end. In this fashion, it resembles a bed, a chaise lounge, or perhaps a day-bed. Occasionally the sofa is put in the psychiatrists workplace also, then it is referred to as a psychiatrists couch – the patient lies down and discloses his problems to the doctor. The sofa could be of many varieties – the most ordinary type is the loveseats – that is the British 2-seaters. There’s the sofa, which refers to more than two seats. There is the sectional sofa – that is made from multiple sections – typically 2 to 4, this typically comprises at least 2 items that are connected at a 90 degree angle, or a greater angle.

There are, in fact, several different kinds of sofas. There’s the divan, which almost looks like a bed – its ideal for sleeping or napping on. There is the fainting couch, that could be either partial-backed or backless. There is the chaise lounge, which is long, with one armrest at a side. There’s the canap – that is a rather decorative three seaters. The ottoman is also there, but this is usually taken as a footstool.

These days, several people live in small condominiums, so they need to take advantage of no matter space is available. That’s why the sofa-bed is fast coming into prominence. This kind of sofa-bed doubles as a bed, hence if you live in a small condo, where the living room is also the bedroom, or if you got a friend sleeping over and you unable to spare space in your bedroom, then this type of sofa (that is also a bed) may be just the right thing for you!

A settee can be found in almost every house these days – its an inviting sort of furnishings, one look and you wish to sit down on it! You’ll put some cushions on your sofa to enhance the appeal.

Today, you’ll be able to choose leather sofas, modern sofas, or perhaps futon sofas. Ideally opt for something comfortable and padded – something elegant and fashionable, yet decorative at the same time.

So You Think You Know How to Shop For Area Rugs, Huh?

December 17th, 2009 Aiden Mundt No comments

Sometimes finding the perfect area rug can be hard. That’s due in part to the mind numbing array of shapes, colors and patterns available. To help simplify the process let’s look at a handful of things to remember when buying an area rug.

Always take the dimensions of your room and the amount of floor you are trying to cover with you when shopping. Obvious I know. But easily overlooked. Yet this will help you choose the appropriate size floor covering. If you order custom made rugs then go for the exact dimensions you have measured. However if you go for standard sized rugs, and it’s not an exact fit, then choose the next larger size rug.

Once you’ve got an idea of size the next decision involves the color. This is important since any area rug sets the tone for the room. Work with the colors found in your furniture or curtains. Just don’t mistakenly try to match every color or you’ll end up driving yourself crazy in the pursuit.

Then you’ve got to decide on a single color or some sort of pattern. Solids are good for rooms with a variety of color in them already. The rug can help bring things together. But such a rug is often not a good choice for homes with kids, pets or in rooms that are used to get to other parts of the house. That’s due to the fact traffic patterns, stains and pet hair are readily visible on such a sea of color.

Yet rugs with a pattern are a good choice for high traffic rooms. Or those where the risk of spills or stains is higher. Because the pattern makes it hard to pick out the spot. The downside to these is they may be too busy for the room. Or may not work with furniture that isn’t more or less a solid color.

To keep your rug in place consider gripper pad. If getting a custom sized rug it’s a good idea to order both at the same time. But this will hold your rug where you put it. And make for a softer feel underfoot.

If you are purchasing new wall to wall carpet any decent sized remnants can be turned into runners. However if the carpet was measured right there shouldn’t be much, if any, for more than a runner or two out of the left overs. Also just don’t throw these on your new carpet without covering the backing of the runner. That’s because the backing is very abrasive and laid directly over carpet it wears away the very fibers you’re trying to protect.

Be sure to expand your list of potential places to find a suitable rug. Some good bargains can be found at furniture consignment shops, garage or estate sales, even antique stores. It may take longer but the savings and the thrill of the hunt may make it worth the effort.

Factoring in shipping costs into your budget is also smart. This is why it may be best to see if you can’t source your purchase locally before looking online. Oh and it’s not unusual for a rug to take some time to relax after being tightly bound during shipping.

Decorating with area rugs can be fun. They give you the perfect way to brighten almost any room. Hopefully these tips will make it easier for you to find just the right floor covering for your situation.

Carpet Saving Vacuuming Advice

December 12th, 2009 Aiden Mundt No comments

If you are like me then vacuuming your carpet is a task to be postponed for the weekends. Or later if you get a better offer. As it’s a less than exciting chore best left until everything else is done, right?

Not the right approach actually. As avoiding vacuuming isn’t good for your family or the carpeting. Left alone eventually the ground in sand and grit will wear away at the fibers leaving you with carpet that doesn’t look as it once did. While accumulating dust mites and dust build up may leave allergy sufferers, well, suffering.

Plus there’s a right and wrong way to vacuum. Unfortunately, most get it wrong. In part because no one taught them any different. Let’s see if we can’t change that.

Anyway as the benefits become clear, regular vacuuming takes on a greater sense of urgency. To help clarify those benefits, here are nine easy tips to maximize the time you spend with your hand on the vacuum.

Regular vacuuming avoids dirt build-up. You want to hit high traffic areas, like hallways, maybe as often as twice a week. While once a week is okay for the low to medium traffic areas.

It helps to remember that most dirt entering your home comes in by way of your shoes. Walk off mats help with this. As will leaving shoes by the entrance.

Help your vacuum do a good job by keeping it armed with fresh bag and filters. You see as the dirt accumulates air can’t pass thru them as easily. You know this a loss of suction power. So don’t try to push the bag or filter longer than you should. Filters are best replaced every three months. And put in a fresh bag when the current one is three quarters full.

Then here’s the biggest mistake most make. They’re in too big of a hurry to get the job over with that they don’t allow the machine to do it’s job. You want to run the head of the vacuum over the same area at least three or four times. Twice that for high traffic areas that are the dumping ground for dirt.

Make sure your vacuum is set at the correct height: If you set the cleaner too low you risk damage to the carpet, belts and roller brushes of vacuum cleaner. Too high and you will not extract embedded dirt or pet hair.

You need to work the vac against the pile to suck up all the dirt. Again the idea is to run the vacuum over the same section of carpet rather than moving the head to a new part with each pass.

Keep your vacuum maintained: Clean the brushes, check the belts, inspect the vacuum head regularly. Removing anything that has wrapped itself around the beater brush.

Avoid running over the cord with the vacuum. Find a central location, plug it in and keep it behind you as much as you can.

It may sound obvious but vacuum during the day so you can see what you’re doing.

Few things are as satisfying as the look of freshly vacuumed carpet. The expanse of color without a blemish is nice to see. Besides it’s a good feeling to know your home is clean and rid of dust mites, sand and accumulated dirt.

Why not become even better informed about Miele Capricorn vacuums, get up to speed on a Dirt Devil hand vacuum or stick, or just learn more about controlling dust mites? All this and more can be found at AskTheVacuumGuy.com – the site for those looking for answers to questions about floor care.

5 Things You Don’t Know About Carpet and Rug Care

November 30th, 2009 Aiden Mundt No comments

Few things can transform any room like new carpet. You instantly get a fresh look free of nasty stains. Not to mention what the new color can do to highlight the furniture and wall coverings. But the hard part is keeping things looking fresh and all. Because kids, pets and foot traffic are hard on carpet.

Problem is, before you know it the unavoidable spills, inevitable stains and accumulated dirt and grime will take its toll on your lovely new carpet. That is unless you take the required steps to keep them at bay. To help with that here are some time tested carpet and rug care tips.

Your first line of defense is your good quality vacuum. Vacuuming halls, stairs, and entrances into living area twice a week is a good start. Hitting the rest of your carpet with the vac at least once a week completes the effort. What you want is to extract dirt and grit before it can work it’s way deep into the carpet fibers.

You want to vacuum slowly – against the pile. Repeatedly pulling and pushing the vacuum head over the same general area six or seven times even deep cleans. Yes, this intense vacuuming action sucks out the deep down dirt. It also revives the carpet fibers making then springy again.

Carpet Care Tip: Where the backing and nylon fibers meet is where carpet is most at risk. That’s where the sand and grit wears away the fibers ultimately causing the most damage to your carpeting.

Here’s another good idea. Move the furniture once in a while to thoroughly vacuum every inch of your carpet.

Then did you know the key to dealing with spills is quick action? Doing so means you’re less apt to be left with an unsightly stain.

For unexpected problems keep foam or powdered carpet cleaner handy. And “Blot Not Rub” is the phrase to remember. Use white paper towel to suck up any spilled liquid. Or a spatula to gently remove anything solid and sticky.

To remove stains, try applying dry-cleaning fluid or spot-removing solution sold at carpet stores.

Obviously different stains require different modes of treatment. For some dry cleaning solvent are best. Others will respond to the carpet spot remover. Other still may need a mix of liquid detergent, ammonia or vinegar. Whatever solvent you use, just be sure you’ve tested it on your carpet in an out of sight location to make sure it won’t harm the color.

The final problem to discuss is crushing. As in crushing the life out of your carpet under the weight of heavy furniture. Carpet casters to the rescue in this case. If you don’t like those then at least scoot your furniture a bit to the left or right to spread the wear and tear over more surface area.

Granted nothing can spare your carpet from spills, stains and wear and tear of everyday living. But diligence, regular vacuuming and quick action can minimize the risk of permanent problems that can mar the look of your carpet.

According to author and vacuum enthusiast, Aiden Mundt, a Miele vacuum cleaner should be high on your list – if you want a quiet vac. At Last! Some Guaranteed Ways to Decimate Dust Mites

November 24th, 2009 Aiden Mundt No comments

Dust mites. They’re disgusting microscopic creatures. Not only that, a surging population surge can trigger an allergic reaction or for some make their asthma worse. The best way to minimize the symptoms is rid your clothes, pillows and carpets of the pests. To do that you can’t be half hearted. Here are six things anyone can do.

Use protective covers on beds, pillows and mattresses to reduce the problem of mites by as much as 1000 times as compared to non covered ones. Thick vinyl covers, non woven synthetic covers or finely woven fabrics can be used. If you are planning to buy hypoallergenic bedding make sure the pore size is no bigger than 6 micron to prevent dust mites.

et rid of the carpet. In some cases vacuuming carpet can only make things worse. It stirs up the dreadful dust mites and their droppings unless you’ve got a HEPA filter. If that’s not an option replace the carpet with tile or laminate flooring to keep any mites in the neighborhood far away.

Buy a dehumidifier for your bedroom. Mites survive in warm humid climates. Making things dryer discourages them. While keeping room temperature below 50 degrees helps too. Although that may not be too comfortable for you either.

Use hot water on them. It’s been found that you get make your clothes close to 100% mite free by using wash water that’s approaching–0 degrees. While washing in warm water eliminates somewhat less than 10% of the mites residing in your clothing. Morale of the story? If you want to get rid of the mites you need to wash hot.

For those items of clothing you’d rather not subject to such hot water another solution is a laundry additive called DeMite. A couple of spoonfuls does the trick. Giving you another way to control mites in the laundry room.

While heat works to eliminate mites in some ways so does cold. Freezing cold. So take your kids’ stuffed animals, put them in a plastic bag and leave them in the freezer for a day. You can do the same with sheets and pillow cases. This will stop the mites cold.

Armed with these six ideas you now know antihistamines aren’t always the only answer for allergic dust mite reactions. The key is regular washing, vacuuming and cleaning. A second approach it to create a mite barrier. A third is elimination of their favorite habitat. All of these can help you to effectively control dust mites helping to minimize allergic reactions in you or your kids.

According to author and clean house enthusiast, Aiden Mundt, some vacuums are better for dust mites than others. Did the Miele Capricorn make the list? Is there a Dyson in the bunch? Answers to those and other questions along with helpful vacuum cleaner reviews await you at AskTheVacuumGuy.com!

Modular Office Furniture And Cubicle Setups

November 19th, 2009 Roger Powell No comments

Many workplaces have to be very flexible to keep up with changing demands. Companies have to respond quickly and efficiently. In order to do this, some companies are turning away from office buildings with permanent walls and furniture and looking at cubicles that can house a range of modular office furniture.

While it may look like a significant investment to purchase the cubicle walls and modular office furniture it must be taken in comparison to building and outfitting a traditional building with fixed walls and furniture for each individual office space. A very expensive proposition that lacks the ability to change as needs evolve.

Cost effectiveness being one consideration, other considerations may ultimately affect the success of the organization. You must configure the modular office furniture work stations so they can address needs such as privacy or easy communication, work flow and equipment accessibility, and the creation of the best work environment for employees. This latter consideration impacts the productivity of an organization as well as the relation to customers and visitors.

There has been a recent trend to place administrative assistants or other employees in the cubicles near the windows and move the managers and supervisors into the center of the office. This makes it possible for more people to have access to the support they need. Cubicle size should also be determined by the job being performed rather than the preferences of the individual employee.

Since the administrative assistant’s office is often the hub of activity as well as the place where most corporate policies and procedures are kept, this may also require a larger space than the areas that house the supportive or supervisory positions.

Cubicle wall height can also impact the way the office is perceived by employees and visitors alike. Walls come anywhere from 30 to 80 inches high, and this will allow you to create some very private spaces or an office that is open more open to communication between employees. Different jobs will need different sizes. Counselors, for example, will need something that provides more privacy, while someone in an administrative position would want something that facilitates easy access.

Flexibility can provide the impression to visitors that a company wants to portray. An organization wanting to instill trust in a client may want higher walls to create an atmosphere of privacy. Another organization may want to portray an image of liveliness and energy by creating an office with open areas and free flowing communication.

Ultimately, as you research modular office furniture and the different needs involved therein, hopefully this articles serves as a great source of information for you. Good luck in your decisions!
